District of Columbia Medicaid covers individuals who are sixty-five (65) or older, blind, or disabled. Eligibility for Medicaid is based on your household’s income and the value of your resources.  If you are blind or disabled, you must have a disability determination by the Social Security Administration (SSA) or be evaluated by a doctor in order to qualify.

Who is Eligible?

You may be eligible for Medicaid in the District under the aged, blind, and disabled category, if you:

• Are sixty-five (65) or older, blind, or disabled;
• Are a District Resident;
• Are US citizens or have eligible immigration status; and
• Have resources below $4000 for one person

Resources include the following:

• Cash
• Bank accounts
• Retirement accounts
• Stocks and bonds
• Cash value of life insurance policies
• Other investments.

The value of your home, a car, home furnishing, clothing and jewelry are not counted towards the $4,000 resource limit.

The District covers this population with household income up to 100% of the Federal Poverty Level
