The DC Department of Health Care Finance (DHCF) is now accepting applications for new members for both the Medicaid Advisory Committee (MAC) and Beneficiary Advisory Council (BAC). New member terms will begin in October 2026.
What are the MAC and BAC?
The DC Medicaid Advisory Committee (MAC) is a group where Medicaid members, advocates, providers, and DC officials come together to review the program's operations and share ideas on how to improve it.
The DC Beneficiary Advisory Council (BAC) is a group where Medicaid beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers can share their experiences and ideas on how Medicaid can better meet people’s needs.
Who can be on the MAC and BAC?
The MAC is open to a wide range of Medicaid partners and community members. People who can apply include:
- Current and former Medicaid beneficiaries, family members, or caregivers of Medicaid beneficiaries
- Providers or administrators of hospitals, health systems, primary care, specialty care, and long-term care
- Representatives of advocacy groups focused on Medicaid beneficiaries
- Individuals who work at community-based organizations that provide services or supports to Medicaid beneficiaries
The BAC is only open to people with direct experience in Medicaid, such as:
- Current and former Medicaid beneficiaries
- Family members and caregivers of Medicaid beneficiaries
People with direct experience in Medicaid can serve on both the MAC and BAC. DHCF is especially looking for several new BAC members who are also interested in serving on the MAC.
What are the responsibilities of MAC and BAC members?
Members are expected to attend all meetings and take part in the discussions. All meetings offer a virtual attendance option.
- MAC has one evening meeting every other month. There are also MAC Subcommittee meetings that members can choose to join.
- BAC has one evening meeting every three months. There are also optional BAC office hour sessions that members may choose to attend.
Members should prepare for meetings by reading materials that are shared in advance and completing any assigned tasks.
Members are expected to participate through the end of their term. Terms for MAC and BAC will begin on October 1, 2026. Term lengths will range from 1 to 3 years – the term length will be confirmed when new members are selected.
Medicaid beneficiaries and family/caregiver representatives who are selected for the MAC or BAC may be eligible for compensation for attending meetings.
