Deputy Director for Finance
Ganayswaran Nathan is the Deputy Director - Finance of the Department of Health Care Finance. G. Nathan was appointed by the DC Mayor to the position in February 2011.
In this role, G. Nathan is a top advisor to the Director on the financial operations and financial oversight of the agency. The Deputy Director is specifically tasked with providing recommendations and critically assessing the budget proposals developed by the agency fiscal officer. Other significant financial assignments include: developing of long range and annual financial plans and program priorities, design and implementation of provider rates, resolving billing issues of public and private providers, and monitoring the external audit engagements of public and private providers.
As the Deputy Director-Finance, G. Nathan continues to play key role representing the Department before legislative bodies, the Office of the Chief Financial Officer and undertaking special project assignments.
G. Nathan joined the Department with over 26 years’ experience in both government and private sector healthcare financial management. He served in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer of the University of the District of Columbia as a Financial Manager before joining DHCF. He had served as the Agency Fiscal Officer in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer of the Department of Health, Medical Assistance Administration (MAA) and the Officer of Budget and Planning during the District of Columbia Financial Control Board period.
G. Nathan holds an MBA in Finance, and BSc in Accounting & Income Tax Law.
