Payment Error Rate Measurement (PERM) Provider Education Sessions
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will host quarterly PERM provider education sessions throughout the FY 2017 PERM cycle. The purpose of these sessions is to offer educational and procedural guidance to providers of the Medicaid program and/or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) to enhance understanding of the PERM program and process, as well as, provider specific responsibilities as Medicaid and/or CHIP providers. CMS hopes to encourage both participation and responsiveness from sampled providers throughout the PERM cycle through these sessions.

The PERM program is designed to measure improper payments in the Medicaid Program and CHIP, as required by the Improper Payments Information Act (IPIA) of 2002 (amended in 2010 by the Improper Payments Elimination and Recovery Improvement Act or IPERA, and the Improper Payments Elimination and Recovery Improvement Act of 2012 IPERIA). By holding these PERM provider education sessions, CMS hopes to convey why PERM is necessary, and why participation, as a Medicaid and/or CHIP provider is essential for successful completion of a PERM cycle.

PERM provider education sessions will include presentations that detail:

  • The PERM process
  • Provider responsibilities during a PERM review
  • Recent trends, frequent mistakes, and best practices

The presentations will be repeated each session. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during the sessions through the conference lines, via the webinar, and through the dedicated PERM Provider email address at: [email protected]
