Department of Health Care Finance Announces Delay in Provider Payments Due to Federal Shutdown

Medicaid and Alliance programs impacted
Contact: Dorinda White (202) 727-9226

Due to the failure of the United States Congress to pass a budget for fiscal year 2014 and the District’s resulting budget difficulties, at this time, the Department of Health Care Finance (DHCF) is not in a position to pay the managed care organizations or fee-for-service providers for the health care services delivered to the District’s Medicaid and Alliance beneficiaries.

Providers should continue to submit claims using the normal process. DHCF will process and pay delayed managed care capitated payments and allowable fee-for-service claims as soon as the District of Columbia’s fiscal year 2014 budget is approved by the United States Congress.

The federal shutdown does not impact DHCF’s $30 million grant program which is being implemented as a part of a court-ordered settlement to pay claims unpaid by Chartered Health Plan in fiscal year 2013. Providers who have not submitted their grant applications are encouraged to do so prior to the October 15, 2013 deadline. DHCF will process payments for all completed and approved grant applications as they are received.
