What is a use case?
An HIE use case is a narrative that describes how the HIE will be used to accomplish a specific goal. Use cases are valuable ways to plan for a new functionality or use of the HIE, because they can help communicate the functional requirements and intent. Having this documented first will help scope and develop a proposed solution and accelerate the technical evaluation process.
Use cases should clearly outline their purpose, goal, the types of data being exchanged, how the data will be used, and by whom. Developing use cases requires understanding the issues and opportunities that the data can address.
DHCF’s goal of working with District partners to identify new DC HIE use cases is intended to streamline innovation and collectively support patient care coordination and whole-person care delivery, enhance population health and public health, streamline processes, and enable better health outcomes.
