HOME AND COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES (HCBS) WAIVER FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (II/DD)
What is Home and Community-Based Services Waiver for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (II/DD)?
The Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) waiver provides community-based options for individuals with intellectual developmental disabilities. The HCBS waiver allows Medicaid eligible individuals to either remain in their own homes or live in a community setting, rather than an institutional setting such as: a hospital, nursing home or intermediate care facility for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Who is eligible for Home and Community Based Services Waiver for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (II/DD)?
The person must have Medicaid or be Medicaid eligible;
The person must be a District of Columbia resident currently receiving services from DDS/DDA;
The person must meet ICF/IDD Level of Care Criteria;
The person must choose that they want to live in a community setting;
The person must demonstrate a need for one or more of the services provided by a HCBS Waiver;
The person’s income and assets must be within the limits specified for the waiver. That is, assets less than $4,000 if receiving income from source other than SSI. SSI benefits require assets less than $2,000;
Income & Entitlements less than $1,800 per month; and
If you work, you may be eligible as long as your assets & income meet the required financial thresholds.
What are the approved services provided under DC Medicaid – Home and Community Based Services Waiver for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (II/DD)?
1) Residential Supports and Family Supports:
Residential Habilitation, Supported Living, Host Home, Shared Living, In-home Supports, Respite, Personal Care, and One-time Transitional.
2) Day and Vocational Supports:
Supported Employment, Employment Readiness, Individualized Day Supports, and Day Habilitation.
3) Professional Services:
Nutrition; Speech; Hearing & Language; Physical Therapy; Occupational Therapy; Behavior
Supports; Family Training; Skilled Nursing; Dental; Art Therapies and Wellness.
4) Assistive Supports:
Personal Emergency Response System; Vehicle Modification; and Environmental Accessibility
Adaptation.
