This serves to inform all Medicaid Prescribers that the DC Department of Health Care Finance has contracted with Magellan Health Services to manage a Diabetic Supply Program. It also informs prescribers that Magellan Health Services has retained two companies, Abbott Diabetes Care, Inc. and Roche Diagnostics Corporation, to be providers of preferred blood glucose monitors effective July 1, 2011.

It also advises Fee for Service Medicaid beneficiaries who use non-preferred monitors to switch to preferred monitors beginning July 1, 2011.

It informs beneficiaries that test strips for non-preferred monitors will not be covered by the District of Columbia Medicaid after August 1, 2011 unless the recipient’s physician obtains a prior authorization.
