Medicaid Update: Transmittal #12-08 New Requirements for Multiple NPI Numbers on Claims

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

This is the second transmittal the Department of Health Care Finance is sending out to providers to review what they need to do to comply with certain regulations of the new Medicaid State Plan Amendment which was published in the DC Register on March 2, 2012 as it relates to claims for Personal Care Aide services.

This transmittal addresses new requirements for the use of National Provider Identification (NPI) numbers on all claims for reimbursement submitted on or after July 2, 2012, for the provision of state plan Personal Care Aide (PCA) services.

All claims submitted without a NPI number for the physician or APRN prescribing the service, and Personal Care Aide delivering the service will be denied beginning July 2, 2012.

Please review the detailed instructions provided in Transmittal 12-08, and comply with all requirements. .
