Public Forum on Integrated Care

PUBLIC FORUM on INTEGRATED CARE

On October 1, 2022, the Department of Health Care Finance and the Department of Behavioral Health shifted to PHASE 2 of our shared work to integrate Behavioral Health Services and Providers into our Managed Care Program, DC Healthy Families. DC Healthy Families | dhcf

PHASE 1 was heavily supported by the Stakeholder Advisory Group, Individuals with Lived Experience of the BH System, Advocates, Community Members, Provider Organizations, and Health Plan Experts. DHCF and DBH collected formal and informal recommendations from Work Groups and Work Streams tasked in several key implementation areas assigned by the Agencies.

In PHASE 2, Agency Staff will incorporate those recommendations and discussions into critical system transformation activities including enhancing rates and services, publishing policies and regulations, advancing infrastructure and technology, and prioritizing key system performance indicators.

The District’s BH System Transformation and Integration work needs ongoing support from the Stakeholder Community.

The Public Forum on Integrated Care is now held bi-monthly, and the public is invited to join. District Leaders and Staff look forward to your participation.

The next Public Forum on Integrated Care is scheduled for Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 4 pm - 5:30 pm.

Medicaid Behavioral Health Integration Stakeholder Advisory Group

The District recently embarked on a Medicaid behavioral health redesign and transformation effort in alignment with DHCF’s strategic priority to build a health system that provides whole person care. The District seeks to ensure that Medicaid mental health, substance abuse, primary care, and specialty services are coordinated and delivered in a manner that is most effective to caring for people with multiple healthcare needs and produces the best outcomes. A key component of this project will be to carve-in behavioral health services into managed care contracts. DHCF plans to include behavioral health services as covered benefits in the District’s managed care contracts as of October 1, 2022 with the purpose of improving coordination and providing whole-person care to increase service integration for individuals with behavioral health needs.

The Behavioral Health Integration Stakeholder Advisory Group provides input on key decisions relating to the carve-in of behavioral health services into Medicaid Managed Care, identifies potential issues and operational concerns, and provides solution-oriented feedback for consideration as part of a transparent behavioral health integration planning and implementation process through a collaboration between Medicaid and the Department of Behavioral Health.
