Act Now. Stay Covered!
In order to continue to receive Medicaid, DC Health Care Alliance and Immigrant’s Children Program coverage, individuals and families must renewal their healthcare coverage once a year.
To prepare for your renewal ensure the following:
- Update your contact information- Ensure that your correct mailing address, phone number, email address and any other contact information is correct with the agency.
- Check your mail- When your renewal form is sent in the mail there will be a distinctive green line on the envelope.
- Complete your renewal form-If/when you receive your renewal form, make sure to return it before the end of your certification period and include updated information (ex: income).
Passive Renewals are automatic renewals and require no action from a beneficiary. If your healthcare coverage is automatically renewed you will receive a notice in the mail and a notification on District Direct (if you have an account), informing you of your Medicaid approval and new certification period.

This 90-day period is known as the grace period. If you return your renewal form within the grace period and are determined still eligible for medical coverage, your coverage will retroactively go back to the certification end date. If you do not get your renewal form by the 90th day, you will be required to submit a new application for medical healthcare coverage.
