Department of Health Care Finance Announces Intent to Award Three Managed Care Contracts for New Five Year Program

Friday, April 12, 2019

Today, the Department of Health Care Finance (DHCF) announced that the Office of Contracting and Procurement (OCP) submitted to the Council of the District of Columbia a notice of intent to award three contracts for the District’s Medicaid managed care program. The proposed awardees are the three incumbent Medicaid managed care organizations, AmeriHealth Caritas, Trusted Health Plan, and Amerigroup.

“We are pleased with the selection of the three managed care plans for the upcoming five-year contract and excited about the changes DHCF is making to ensure a stabilized managed care environment and promote the delivery of value-based, coordinated care that is managed through our health plans.” said Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services and Department of Health Care Finance Director Wayne Turnage. “These contracts continue the enormous progress DHCF has made in this managed care program, which is now responsible for ensuring access to care for more than 257,000 Medicaid and Alliance beneficiaries in the District.”

The three plans are:

AmeriHealth Caritas (AmeriHealth) is one of the nation’s leaders in health care solutions for those most in need. Operating in 19 states and the District of Columbia, AmeriHealth Caritas serves more than 5 million Medicaid, Medicare and CHIP members through its integrated managed care products, pharmaceutical benefit management and specialty pharmacy services, behavioral health services and other administrative services. AmeriHealth is a mission-driven organization with more than 30 years of experience serving low-income and chronically ill populations.

Trusted Health Plan (Trusted) has a special focus on serving members in the primary service areas of Wards 7 & 8. With the motto of “Our team members are your neighbors”, Trusted’s goal is to eliminate the gap in health care services for its members by connecting them to qualified providers who offer health care services that reflect the specialized needs of the community it serves.

Amerigroup, DC (Amerigroup) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Anthem, Inc. that provides managed care services through state Medicaid, CHIP, Medicare, and Long Term Services and Supports programs. Through a family of affiliated companies serving more than 6 million beneficiaries who participate in government-sponsored health programs, Amerigroup recognizes the challenges low-income and underserved individuals face. Amerigroup DC will offer plans focused on providing access to high quality care for its members while expanding access to care.
