Amelia Whitman, Deputy Chief of Staff, DHCF
Amelia Whitman is Deputy Chief of Staff of the Department of Health Care Finance. In this role, Amelia serves as a top advisor to the Chief of Staff and the Director, and is responsible the coordination and oversight of a wide variety of issues. Amelia tracks and monitors legislative affairs, leads projects surrounding major policy issues related to the District’s Medicaid program, and participates developing strategies and setting priorities to meet the needs of the agency.
Prior to joining DHCF, Amelia served as Policy Director in the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services, where she advised the Deputy Mayor and District health and human service agencies on policy development and implementation. She led and supported a number of key initiatives aimed at improving health and human service outcomes and ensuring that all District residents have a fair shot. Prior to joining the District government, Amelia worked on the federal level to improve access to health care and ensure that individuals and families are able to obtain affordable, comprehensive health insurance.
Amelia has a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Science in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University, and a Master of Public Health from George Washington University.
